Robber’s Cave
Robber’s Cave, located just eight kilometers from the heart of Dehradun, is a must-visit spot during your one-day sightseeing tour by private car. Known locally as Gucchupani, this natural wonder stands out due to its unique formation—a 500-meter indentation in the Himalayan ranges.
The majestic Himalayan landscape offers a striking contrast to the cave’s serene waters, making it a refreshing escape from the bustling city. Stretching about ten meters in length, the cave is composed of conglomerate limestone, creating a natural oasis frequently visited by locals and tourists alike.
Forest Research Institute
The Forest Research Institute is one of India’s oldest and most prestigious forestry institutions, making it a must-visit during your Dehradun local sightseeing tour. It operates under the Indian Council for Forestry Research and was established by the British in a grand Greco-Roman architectural style.
The institute houses an extensive collection of artifacts, so vast that it has created six independent museums. Spanning 2,000 acres of lush greenery, the institute’s grounds are perfect for visitors to take peaceful, scenic walks amidst the natural beauty.
Tapkeshwar Temple
The magnificent Tapkeshwar Temple is a must-visit in your Dehradun sightseeing package, offering both cultural insights and stunning natural beauty. Steeped in religious history, the temple is famous for the continuous droplets of water from a nearby river that fall directly onto the Shiva linga, the main site of worship.
This temple is also said to have historical ties to Guru Dronacharya, a key figure from the Mahabharata. The cave where these water droplets form is known as Drona Cave, adding further significance to the temple’s spiritual and cultural importance.
Malsi Zoo
Nestled within the Malsi Reserve Forest, Malsi Deer Park is renowned for its opportunity to observe young deer and herds in their natural habitat at the Shiwalik foothills. The park is ideal for photography enthusiasts aiming to capture images of these graceful animals. Besides the prominent deer population, the park is home to two-horned deer and Neelgai (Indian Antelope), and it also offers a variety of birdwatching opportunities.
The park features caged peacocks and rabbits that visitors can interact with and feed. Additionally, several slides have been installed for children, allowing them to both play and learn about wildlife. A well-stocked canteen is available on-site for refreshments.
